Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about deceased estates, trusts, and our administrative services.

Is Lutchmia Administrators a law firm?

No. While our Director, Keith Elwyn Lutchmia, has a rich history as a former attorney and trustee on the Master's Panel, Lutchmia Administrators operates strictly as an administrative services firm. We specialize in deceased estate administration, trust registration, and company secretarial services. We do not provide legal opinions or litigate, but we collaborate with attorneys, accountants, and tax consultants when required.

What exactly does an estate administrator do?

Through a Power of Attorney, executors and trustees cede their administrative burdens to us. We handle the comprehensive asset inventory, liaison with the Master of the High Court, collection of funds from banks and insurance companies, settlement of debts, drafting of the Liquidation and Distribution (L&D) account, and the final distribution of assets to beneficiaries.

How long does it take to finalize a deceased estate?

The process is lengthy and typically takes 6 to 12 months. We endeavor to complete the process in six months, but the duration depends on the complexities of the estate, the speed of the Master's office, whether there are creditor disputes, and if property needs to be transferred.

Can you assist with registering a new trust or company?

Yes. Beyond deceased estates, we specialize in the administrative complexities of trust incorporation and company registration. We ensure that your personal or business structures are set up correctly and remain compliant with all legal frameworks.

How are your fees structured for estate administration?

Any fee agreement and invoice is typically settled from the funds collected within the estate itself. If there are no funds to collect, the client is liable for the costs. However, we are always open to discussing payment arrangements to suit your specific situation. Contact us for a consultation.
